HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Immigrants, clergy, and other Pennsylvanians gathered across the state for a "Day of Action" rally. They held vigils in a number of cities in support of legislation that would provide driver's licenses to undocumented Pennsylvanians.
Participants of the vigil in Harrisburg delivered thousands of letters to representatives, asking them to pass the House Bill 1648.
"It's a basic right to be able to mobilize, to get groceries, to get your child from school, to go to a pharmacy," says Maria Alejandra Hernandez, organizer of the event in Harrisburg. "It's a need, especially to bring food to the table. A lot of our families, their children are U.S. citizens. They need to support their families."
Vigils also took place in York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Reading.
11 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico already allow undocumented people to have driver's licenses.
