MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Members of the Lancaster chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby, or CCL, spent the past few days in Washington D.C. lobbying for more to be done to combat climate change.

Jim Sandoe and Jim Lee Miller, are both volunteer members with the Citizens Climate Lobby. Sandoe says his group has a solution to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

"The less CO2 we can get up in the atmosphere, the less blocking it would be and that will allow the heat to radiate in space, so we won't have to overheat the atmosphere," Sandoe said. "Carbon dioxide lasts hundreds of years, in the atmosphere, everything up there is going to be up there."

Sandoe studies climate change and said a revenue neutral bill would put a fee on carbon dioxide and the revenue would be returned to consumers.

Miller said their DC trip was backed by Pope Francis and his push for climate in a recent encyclical. "I'm glad the Pope talked about caring for a creation and the poor.  We have a mission to preserve a liveable planet for generations growing up now," Miller said.

Sandoe said, "a lot of this is a moral argument.  What are we doing to the Earth and to the poorest people on Earth?"

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) agreed. His environmental committee met with Miller, Sandoe and the CCL in Washington.

"I believe Climate Change is real.  It's caused by humans and we have to steps to deal with because it not, adverse consequences that none of us want to consider," Sen. Casey said.

A spokesperson for Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) said the senator was unable to comment. However, the group said they are optimistic lawmakers from both sides will see the importance of its mission.

"We believe we're serving a purpose that's greater than us," Miller said.
