People gathered at the John Wright Restaurant on Front Street in Wrightsville, York County for Riverfest on Sunday.
The 12th Annual Festival commemorates the burning of the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge during the Civil War on June 28th, 1863.
“Piers, the original piers are still in the river and you can see out here on the lawn, enjoy the music, just a beautiful time to be out along the river,” says David Haneman, President of Rivertownes PA, USA.
Union militia members burned the bridge in 1863 to prevent Confederate troops from advancing into Columbia, Lancaster County from Wrightsville, York County.
The Riverfest event blends history with boating, music, food and fellowship.
