HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Even in the rain, the Me and Us Band kicked off the Fourth of July Celebration in City Island in Harrisburg on Saturday.
The City has planned the Fourth of July celebration for two years. This is the first time it has been held at City Island.
Mayor Eric Papenfuse says he did not want the cost of the event to fall on taxpayers. Ollie's Bargain Outlet donated $20,000 for fireworks. Other sponsors pitched in to help the city reach its goal of $35,000.
"We wanted to have a highlight on City Island because it allows us to highlight our existing vendors that have been here for years, as well as bring in new vendors in a safe pedestrian setting," said Papenfuse.
Officials do not know what the plans will be for next year. This year included six bands, over a dozen vendors, a concert by the Harrisburg Symphony and fireworks!
