The battle over the state budget continues as Pennsylvania now enters its third week without a spending plan.

Republicans continue to stand by their 30.2 billion dollar plan, which Governor Tom Wolf vetoed in its entirety earlier this month.

They say their package would have increased funding to schools, privatized the state’s liquor system and didn’t include any new taxes or increases.

Governor Wolf, however, is still pushing for his spending plan which included a larger investment to education funding, but also higher taxes on income, sales and natural gas drilling.

As the standoff continues, the question now is; how will the stalemate affect people across the Commonwealth?

If a decision is not reached by the end of the month, non-profits and those who depend on state funds could feel a strain similar to what happened back in 2009.

That’s when the state went three months without a budget under former Governor Ed Rendell.

State employees, however, will continue to receive paychecks because of a court ruling that was made during that 101 day stalemate.

As of now, there are no scheduled budget talks between the Governor and Republican leaders.
