Benefitting the York County Heritage Trust, the annual Book Blast event relies on donations from local residents. For months prior to the event, residents are encouraged to donate unwanted books. These books are bargain-priced at the Blast to raise funds for the Trust.

Director of Library & Archives Lila Fourhman-Shaull and her team of volunteers organize the donations and run the sale, which runs for four days. The Book Blast is being held this year from August 12 through August 15 at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum in downtown York.

This year, the event will spotlight books donated from the collection of Jim Rudisill, a York City teacher and local historian.

In general, paperback books are priced at $1, with hardcover books priced at $2, although some exceptions apply. On Saturday, the final day of the event, the prices drop drastically, with whatever is left available for "buck-a-bag" pricing, meaning patrons can fill a bag with books and it will cost only $1.
