Firefighters from Pennsylvania are heading West to help battle wildfires.
The PA Bureau of Forestry is sending a 20 person crew of volunteers to fight wildfires in Montana.
Once there, they will be assigned to help contain one of several wildfires burning across the Western part of the United States.
But before heading to the airport, the group of volunteers gathered at the fire station in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County.
Crews from the Eastern U.S. are typically sent to help combat fires when the preparedness level rises above 3.
This is the 5th time crews have been sent to help battle wildfires.
John Portzline, PA 5 – Type 2IA Crews says, “We are prepared for any type of assistance we can provide. It could be anywhere from helping folks burn an area out. For every active wildfires, holding fire line, digging hot lines or it could be mopping up. Any kind of assistance that they need, we are willing to provide for them.”
As of Friday, there were 51 active fires in 11 states.
