It’s back to school time for students in the Harrisburg area.

Caravans of yellow school buses made the rounds Monday morning as day one of classes officially got underway.

At all ten schools across the district, including Scott Elementary School, parents and students were welcomed by volunteers with the American Literacy Corporation.

This is the first year the group, which is made up of local businessmen, community leaders and members of other non-profits, decided to do the morning greeting.

The volunteers were there to offer high-fives and words of encouragement to the students as they made their way to their classrooms.

Floyd Stokes, the Executive Director of the American Literacy Corporation, says their goal here is to set a good example for the city's youth and to get them excited about learning.

Stokes says he's hoping to now make the “100 Men Greeting” an annual back to school tradition in Harrisburg.
