HARRISBURG, Pa – The Norman Wood bridge over the Susquehanna River between southern Lancaster and York counties is closed until further notice. PennDOT shutdown the heavily traveled bridge along Route 372 following an inspection earlier today. During that an inspection a crews discovered a 9 foot long crack in one of the bridge's steel girders.
PennDOT advises travelers that the bridge will stay closed indefinitely as engineers evaluate the condition of the bridge and develop a plan to repair the bridge beam.
To avoid delays, travelers should allow for additional time in their plans or seek an alternate route. The Route 462 and U.S. Route 30 bridges over the Susquehanna River to the north of the Norman Wood bridge are the nearest crossings.
The Norman Wood Bridge is a two-lane, 21-span bridge that was built in 1968 and carries an average of more than 4,300 vehicles daily.
