MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. – Attorney General Kathleen Kane was formally arraigned late this afternoon in Montgomery County.  Kane accompanied by her attorneys appeared before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Rebar in Lower Providence Township.

Kane was fingerprinted and charged with Perjury, a felony and two minor charges of False Swearing and Obstruction Administration of Law. These latest charges resulted after investigators during a warrant search last month of  her Harrisburg office discovered a secrecy oath that Kane had signed shortly after taking office in 2013.  Kane had sworn in testimony before a grand jury in November 2014 that she was never sworn to secrecy for the 2009 grand jury that was investigating grand jury leaks.

The 49 year old Kane already faces a number of criminal charges for alleging lying that she leaked information about the 2009 case to the media last year to embarrass political rivals. Kane has denied any wrong doing and proclaimed that the charges against her were payback for disclosing pornographic and sexually explicit emails sent and shared by former officials in her office and elsewhere.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court recently temporarily suspended Kane’s license to practice law casting further doubt that she should continue holding office. She has vowed to vigorously fight the charges against her.
