CONEWAGO TWP., Pa. - You could understand how Marcus Josey could feel like he was on Cloud Nine before his homecoming dance Saturday night.

"I feel great right now," the senior at Northeastern High School said. "I haven't got treatment for about two weeks, so I feel pretty normal right now."

The teen, who is battling Leukemia, had a very special date to the dance: Miss New Jersey, Lindsey Giannini. She was so moved by his journey that she agreed to go with him.

"He's having to go through these battles that not everyone has to go through, and the fact that I can be here at his senior homecoming is really special," she said.

Plenty of people gave of themselves to make it a special day. The Shiloh American Legion Riders and Warrior Brotherhood gave Josey and his friends an escort. The limo, flowers, photography, and a room for Giannini to stay for the weekend were all donated.

"These days, we're just losing so many of these people with these diseases, so we just need to reach out and make awareness of this anytime it involves a young person, it just touches all of us," Larry Julius, with the Shiloh American Legion Riders, said.

The generosity did not go unnoticed. Marcus and his date were very grateful for all the community support.

"Just going through what I go through is hard, so when the community rallies together in support of me it means a lot to me," Josey said.

"It shows that York is one of those communities that if the rest of the nation was like York, the world would be a much better place," Giannini added.
