YORK, Pa. - York City Police believe three teens ranging in age from 13 to 15 started a fire that destroyed four row homes Wednesday night. The fire started around 5:40 p.m. behind 330 Poplar Street. It then spread to 324,326, and 328. The fire left 24 people homeless, including nine children. It caused $300,000 in damage and two firefighters were hurt.
According to the York Fire Department's Facebook page, “they noticed occupants at the 2nd floor window throwing belongings out of the window. They entered to get the occupants out of the home. They encountered two occupants coming down the stairs. Due to a language barrier, crews were unsure if anyone else was still on the 2nd floor. As crews made the 2nd floor to search for victims, fire conditions changed rapidly and they found themselves surrounded by fire. A Mayday was called and all were able to make it out of the building".
The injured firefighters were taken to York Hospital and later released. Both are recovering at home. Now, police want to know who the three suspects are and say the boys often hang out in the area. They are asking anyone with information to give them a call at 717-846-1234 or 755-TIPS.
