LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. – Firefighters battle a stubborn 2 alarm rowhome fire in Columbia Borough.  The fire broke out just after 5 pm in the 300 block of Walnut Street.  The first fire crews arriving on the scene reported heavy smoke billowing from the roof tops.

The fire is believed to have started in the home at 336 Walnut.  That home and an adjacent were damaged by the fire. Three other rowhomes on the block suffered smoke damage.

The fire was under control in about 90 minutes. About 20 people in six families in the affected homes were safely evacuated. A nearby church provided temporary shelter.  The American Red Cross is also providing assistance. There no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
