ATLANTA — A woman is lucky to be alive after a mysterious boulder came crashing through her windshield as she was driving along I-75 in Fulton County on Halloween.
The woman, who didn’t want to be identified, says she was driving along the highway near the overpass of Peachtree Battle Road near the Howell Mill Road exit on October 31 when the huge rock suddenly came crashing down onto her vehicle.
“I was out running last minute errands for Halloween and had just dropped my dogs off at daycare,” said the woman. “It came straight through the center of my front windshield, passed by my head and landed in the back seat.”
The woman is unsure if the rock was dropped from the top of the overpass or if a piece of decayed concrete from the bridge feel off. After showing the boulder to police, the driver said officers searched the area and told her there wasn’t any material like that under the bridge.
She says the rock was about the size of a football helmet.
“If that had come through six inches closer, it would have hit me in the head,” said the woman. “I thought to myself, even if a piece of the bridge fell off, that could be dangerous for anyone driving this stretch of road.”
She says it all happened so fast and that she was initially in shock. She says she was able to react quickly and pull her vehicle to the side of the road.
The woman says police took the rock in as evidence. There’s no word on how the investigation is progressing.
