SPRING GROVE, Pa. -- A York County family is trying to fight the texting and driving problem among teenagers today, by telling their daughters story. Karen and Scott Stambaugh introduced a new campaign today while speaking to students at Spring Grove Area High School about their daughter Ashlyn.
On March 27, 2015, 17-year-old Ashlyn Stambaugh struck a utility pole after losing control of her car along Five Points Road in Jackson Township. She died two days later. Stambaugh sent a one word text, reading “here”, to a friend waiting for her to arrive at her house down the street, just moments before the crash.
Now, her family is using their tragedy to start a new campaign aimed at cracking down on texting and driving. “Today we’re here to kick of the “Here … but Driving” Campaign. It is our hope to get through to at least one person that their loved ones won’t need to go through the tragedy and heartache that we will forever endure. We encourage everyone to take the pledge, not just to sign it but to follow through with it,” Karen Stambaugh told the students at Spring Grove High School.
