VANCOUVER — A photo of a police dog hanging on to the leg of his trainer is going viral after being shared by the Vancouver Police’s Canine Unit in Canada.

The caption on the photo reads: PSD Niko, “Hey dad… This rappelling? Yuh, I’m not a fan.”

Vancouver Police Department told ABC News the photo was taken during a training scenario where the dog is slowly introduced to descending vertically, or “rappelling.”

This was the first time for Constable Dan Ames of the VPD Canine Unit and five-year-old Niko the German shepherd, but they have since mastered the task.

Sandra Glendinning of the Vancouver Police Department told ABC News, “Our four-legged officers are a very valuable part of our police department and they are well selected, well trained, and, most importantly, well loved by their handlers. It is fantastic that people get an opportunity to witness something they otherwise may not have known even existed.”

The photo shared by the Vancouver Police Department has over 4,000 likes and 3,000 shares on Facebook.
