SPRING GROVE, Pa. - Students at Spring Grove Area High School wanted to do something to remember fallen soldier Spc. Cameron Stambaugh. He graduated in 2010 and was killed in 2012.
"I think it really hit them that someone they considered a peer, a contemporary had died in war," said Lisa Smith, Community Relations Coordinator for SGASD.
As ideas for a memorial garden developed students decided to honor all alumni who had made the ultimate sacrifice.
"It’s a really great cause that we are doing it for. So many people are have risked and given out so much for everyone and it’s what they deserve really," said senior, Michelle Fehntrich.
The project took three years to complete. Multiple local businesses helped to make it a reality and so did private investors. The wall includes the following heroes:
Pvt. Allen J. Beck, Jr.
Cpl. Richard E. Brenneman
Pfc. Donald Gise
Spc. Michael Lauchman
Lance Cpl. Paul Lecrone
Cpl. Luke Runyan
Spc. Cameron Stambaugh
Spc. Tyrone Thoman
Officer David Tome
Spc. Robert Young
There is space for more names to be added as needed and the project will be handed down through classes and generations.
