YORK, Pa. - For the fourth time, the York City budget will not include a tax increase. Today in a news conference, York City Mayor Kim Bracey announced her proposal for the 2016 York City budget.

Over the next five years, the mayor plans to decrease taxes by 15 percent. And beginning next year, property taxes will decrease by one percent. Mayor Bracey said lowering property taxes was an important key for this budget. "When I talk about leveling the playing field for the city of York, I'm talking about reducing the property tax burdens faced by the homeowners and business investors. So today I am putting my money where my mouth is in terms of making a down payment on that leveling, by introducing a budget with the first property tax reduction in the city of York in 10 years," announced Mayor Bracey.

There will also be a six percent fee increase for sewer rates. That will equal about 50 cents for every thousand gallons used. The money from that fee increase will go towards upgrades at the waste water treatment plant.
