The high school sports landscape in the state is rapidly changing. Last month, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) approved the expansion of classifications in a number of sports. On Monday, the PIAA released enrollment numbers for the 2016-2018 calendar cycle and the classifications for local high schools during that timeframe. Currently, there are four classes in football, basketball, baseball and softball. Starting with the 2016 school season, there will be six.
