YORK, Pa. - Thanksgiving Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year for pizza shops and bars. There are a few theories on why. For one, people do not want to cook. Then, some people do not want to entertain so, they head out instead. Plus, many people have off on Thursday and it is not a religious based holiday so, most people celebrate.  Wednesday is a good night to catch up with friends you have not seen in awhile.

When Holy Hound Taproom opened at 4:00pm on Wednesday there was already a line of people waiting to get in.

"I came out to hang out with my son and my good friends because I’m living in South Carolina and I just came up here and I want to hang out with people I really love and like," said Glenn Vaughn.

Vaughn's sons, grandson, and friends all made their way to Holy Hound with a plan about how they would get home safely.

"My wife's coming to pick me up," said Vaughn.

Holy Hound has their own plans in place to be sure people stay safe.

"We are trained to look for people who have either come into the bar having had too much or we keep an eye on them while they are at the bar and are very careful to monitor their consumption," said manager Brad Hash.

As a rule of thumb, if someone has had more than two drinks it is best not to drive. In 2013, DUI statistics show three people died in fatal crashes on Thanksgiving Eve and 32% of all fatal holiday weekend crashes involved alcohol.
