STRASBURG BOROUGH, Pa. -- Three Lancaster County police departments are competing to see who can collect the most canned goods.

West Lampeter Township, Strasburg Borough and Southern Regional Police started collecting non-perishable food in the beginning of November.

Southern Regional Police's canned goods will go to Conestoga Food Bank. Strasburg Borough and West Lampeter Township's will go to the Council of Churches Food Hub.

The winner of the competition will get bragging rights. But the West Lampeter Township police chief said the real winner will be the food banks.

Chief Brian Wiczkowski said, "This time of year it's kind of easy to get caught up in the gift giving and the next latest and greatest thing. Sometimes you have to step back and realize that it's some tough times out there for a lot of people. It's a tough time making ends meet."
The police departments' food drive will go on until December 20.
