STEELTON, Pa. – The discovery of 11 children living in filthy conditions has lead to the arrest of a Steelton man. Tyree R. Fluellen, 29 was charged on Tuesday with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Last summer, Dauphin County Children and Youth, along with borough police, did a welfare check at Fluellen’s home in the 500 block of North 2nd Street where he was living with his 11 children.

They discovered the home was full of trash, feces, flies and raw meat. There were multiple unidentified bugs throughout the residence with feces on the floor. Officers  also saw maggots overflowing in the trash cans with both the toilets and bath tubs full to the rim with feces.

Six of the children were identified through the Department of Health as contracting Shigella which is a bacteria that causes diarrhea. It is caused by multiple persons living in close quarters and poor sanitation.

Following arraignment Fluellen was taken to the Dauphin County Prison.
