HARRISBURG, Pa.–A Harrisburg man plead guilty Monday to selling heroin to a police informant in Harrisburg, according to the Dauphin County District Attorney’s office.
Mitchell Martinez, 34, was sentenced in Dauphin County Court to 4 1/2 to 12 years in state prison.
Authorities began investigating Martinez following a March 2015 crash in which he was in possession of a syringe with heroin residue. As a result, Martinez was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Prosecutor said agents with the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control Unit and the Harrisburg Police Department’s Organized Crime and Vice Control Unit began conducting surveillance on Martinez.
Both agencies reported that Martinez sold numerous bags of heroin to a police informant on three separate occasions on July 22, July 23 and July 28.
Police searched Martinez’s home and found heroin, drug paraphernalia, two cell phones, a loaded gun and $591 in cash, prosecutors said.
Previously, Martinez plead guilty to a prior felony drug offense in 2007, which made it illegal for him to possess a gun.
As a result of the investigation, Martinez was charged and plead guilty to two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of persons not to possess a firearm and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.
