CRASH

PEQUEA TOWNSHIP, Pa.– Southern Lancaster County Regional Police Department released the name of the 33-year-old  man who died Saturday night in a two-vehicle accident in Pequea Township.

The crash happened along the 2100 block of Millersville Road (Route 741) in Pequea Township around 7:30 p.m.

Benjamin Manotti, 38, of Lancaster was headed west on Route 741 and Gregory Pizarro, 33, of Pequea, was headed east when they collided head-on just west of Bean Road.

Pizarro was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.  Manotti was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said a passing truck driver came upon the accident moments after it happened and jumped into action. James Cooper, of Enola, spotted fire coming from Manotti’s overturned vehicle and used his fire extinguisher to put the fire out before the firefighters arrived at the scene. Police say his heroic actions likely saved Manotti’s life.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. John Michener at 717-872-0352 or via email at michenej@police.co.lancaster.pa.us.
