YORK, Pa.--
The snowstorm was not only a hassle for people but for animals as well. York County SPCA Executive Director Melissa Smith said Tuesday was the first day the shelter and clinic were open since the storm this past weekend.
She said staff members came in over the weekend to care for the animals. She said people had to go into the shelter to feed the animals, give them medications, and to let the animals outside.
The challenge for staff was not only getting to the shelter but leaving their driveways. Smith said they didn't want to leave the animals alone for a whole day.
Smith said the staff may be tired of the snow but the dogs seem to enjoy it.
"They are enjoying it more than we are right now," she said. "We can tell the dogs get out they are happy to get some fresh air and romp in the snow."
Smith said the dog walking path is buried in snow. She said mother nature will have to melt the snow, which means the dogs are taken on shorter walks. She said this makes the bigger dogs more energetic.
