HARRISBURG, Pa. – A suspicious package that prompted the closing of Market Street between 2nd and 5th Streets in downtown Harrisburg contained nothing more than a candle.

Police say someone called 911 at about 3:30 Thursday afternoon and reported that a bomb was in a backpack. The backpack was in a trash can on the corner of 3rd and Market Streets. The Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Disposal unit was called to the scene.

Harrisburg City Police Captain Gabe Olivera says closing down Market Street was the right move.

“It was ultimately determined to be a candle in a glass bottle. That’s where it is now. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Sorry to inconvenience everyone, but we want to make sure everyone is safe.”

The story doesn’t end there however. Police have put out a description for the person who made the threat. When found the individual could face felony charges.
