SPRING GARDEN TWP., Pa. - Last week's winter storm and the snow left over are being blamed for a lack of mail service that has left some residents without mail for at least a week.

"If they want to keep it and pay the bills, that's fine," Shawn Schlenz, a resident, said. "The most annoying part is not knowing what's going on."

Residents say they have been waiting on many things, like bills, school supplies and items from family members.

"There's people out there getting prescriptions delivered in the mail," Schlenz said. "I'm not one of them, but one of my neighbor does, and he hasn't gotten them. There's people that get paychecks and other things in the mail and they still haven't received it."

Residents said they tried to get answers for themselves, calling their local post office, to no avail.

"It just said that they're shorthanded, so I don't know, everyone else does their job," Heidi Woodrome said.

The U.S. Postal Service tells Fox 43 that letter carriers in the York area have been out delivering mail, but many have not been successful because of snow banks that limit their ability to park their vehicles safely.

"We're really waiting for the towns and municipalities to kind of do their part for customers to clear the way as much as possible," Karen Mazurkiewicz, of the U.S. Postal Service, said. "Believe me, our employees do not want to bring the mail back at the end of the day. They want it delivered, so if everybody works together, we'll get this done."

Fortunately for Schlenz and his neighbors, they finally started receiving mail Friday evening.

If you find yourself in a similar situation where your mail service is interrupted, you can notify the USPS to hold your mail so that you can pick it up at the post office. Click here for more information, or call 1-800-ASK-USPS.
