Police officer hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in Lancaster city

LANCASTER, Pa.–A Lancaster city police officer is recovering after he accidentally shot himself at the police station early Tuesday morning.

It happened during training at the police department’s indoor shooting range located at 39 W. Chestnut Street shortly before 2:15 a.m.

The officer was shot in the leg when he accidentally discharged his service weapon while holstering it, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, investigators said. His injuries are considered minor and he is expected to be released from the hospital later today.

The identity of the officer involved has not been released. Police say he was hired in June 2015.
