MANHIEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Over 300 people attended the Manheim Township School Board Meeting Thursday night. The community is upset that the board is accused of breaking the Sunshine Act by holding closed door sessions. The Lancaster County District Attorney's Office gave them a warning. Still the community is upset the closed door sessions were held about hiring a new superintendent. During the community remarks people addressed the board saying things like "I've lost a lot of trust in this board right now."
In the wake of the controversy, the community is asking board president Bill Murry to resign. A petition calling for his resignation has over 600 signatures.
He plans to stay on the board and after the comments addressed the crowd and talked about his family history in the district.
"I don't appreciate people just assuming that I don't care about this school district. That's just categorically unfair. Because no one in this room except a handful have ever sat down and talked to me about it," said Murry.
The board asked people to get in touch with them if they have questions and concerns.
The superintendent job will be posted by the district's human resources department on Friday. They are still debating on whether to hire a firm to take over the search. Dr. Martin Haducs to serve as acting superintendent.
