ADAMS COUNTY, Pa — An Adams County mother is behind bars accused of shaking her infant daughter so violently, the child suffered multiple injuries including 12 fractured ribs, a fractured wrist and retinal hemorrhaging.  The arrest of 23 year old Tasha Reidt followed a lengthy investigation that began on November 4, 2013.

That was the day Pennsylvania State Police responded to Hershey Medical Center along with an Adams County Detective. They were informed by emergency room physicians of the injuries to the two month old infant. The child’s parents were identified as Tasha Nichole Reidt and 26 year old Michael Andrew Taylor. Initially the couple told police that the child had fallen from a swing.  Then Taylor alleged that he had seen Reidt shake the baby on or about October 30, 2013 at around 2 am because the child would not stop crying. Later Taylor recanted his story, saying that he had made it up.

Adams County Children and Youth Services indicated both Reidt and Taylor as perpetrators of abuse against the child.  Reidt and Taylor signed away their parental rights to the baby and she was later adopted.

On February 8, 2016, at about 6:30 pm State Troopers interviewed Reidt at the PSP Gettysburg Barracks. She told them that Michael Taylor was mad at her because the baby would not stop crying. She said that she was getting frustrated with Taylor because he kept yelling at her. She also said that she was frustrated with Taylor because she had learned that he had cheated on her. She then told the troopers that she did not mean to hurt her baby. At that point she began crying.

Reidt finally admitted to shaking the baby in a written statement she said, “All I know is that I just shook her. I didn’t think I shook her that hard to give her so much damage.”

Reidt continued to blame Taylor for yelling at her for being unable to stop the baby from crying.  She continued to cry and also stated, “I’m usually a good person and when I did something like that I couldn’t forgive myself. I still can’t. I’m just so mad at myself. That’s why I’m on depression pills. That’s why I have anxiety attacks.”  She confirmed that the assaults happened at the couple’s Butler Township home.

Reidt was arrested on Monday, February 15, charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault of victim less than 6 and Endangering Welfare of Children. Following arraignment she was sent to the Adams County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.
