LANCASTER, Pa. – An Ephrata mother will serve at least a year in prison for leaving her three young children home alone, her second endangering conviction since 2012.

A Lancaster County jury convicted Angela Marie Jones at trial in November 2015 of leaving the children, ages 1, 3, and 6, unattended at home. Jones told police she was “out back” at an AA meeting, according to Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick, who won the conviction.

County Judge Jeffery Wright ordered Jones serve 1 to 2 years (minus one day) in Lancaster County Prison, followed by 3 years of probation.

In court, Haverstick countered Jones’ claims that she’s taken responsibility for her actions and that social workers credit her for compliance; Haverstick pointed out that Jones hasn’t been compliant with social workers.

Haverstick also noted Jones’ lengthy criminal history which includes convictions for theft, trespassing and animal cruelty.
