DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Dr. Edward Gunther is on a mission to help find the cure for breast cancer. On Thursday, The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition recognized Dr. Gunther for his work.
The PBCC presented him with a $50,000 research grant during a ceremony at the Penn State Hershey medical Center.
Dr. Gunther is working on breakthrough research in finding the link between cancer and relapse.
"There may be cells in the breast that can transform into cancer if they are particularly long-lived. So, we're interested in identifying that subset of cells in the breast that persists for decades in a woman."
So far, the PBCC has pledged over $300,000 to breast cancer research for the year.
