Text messaging can help police solve crimes

YORK, Pa. - Helping police to stop or solves crimes is now at your fingertips. The Mayor of York, York City Police Department, Rabbit Transit and Lamar Advertising have all joined together to promote TIP411 (847411).

TIP411 is a way for people to anonymously text tips to police . Just text, your tip, to 847411.

"We can't do our job very well if the community is not willing to help us step forward and give us information. We always like people who are willing to come forward and testify, but we understand that sometimes people just aren't in the position to do that," said Chief Wesley Kahley, York City Police.

"In my opinion, we must rid our community of this culture of no snitching and not talking to the authority and bring back the culture of caring for the well-being of others and caring about our communities and our neighborhood," said Mayor C. Kim Bracey.
