YORK COUNTY, Pa. – Fire destroyed an abandoned house in the 1900 block of Jug Road near Lewisberry Road in Conewago Township.

The Strinestown Fire Company Chief said that the owner of the property was burning brush nearby when embers set the old house on fire. The owner lived another house nearby.

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for several miles. The fire firefighters on the scene reported  the building was engulfed in flames and smoke.

The house, which had abandoned for years was burnt to the ground. The Fire Chief said that the only loss were family mementos that were stored in the abandoned building.
