The Pennsylvania State Police will be hosting a Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) at Shippensburg University in Cumberland County.

The program is meant to expand citizen’s knowledge and understanding of the law as well as explore police procedure from the perspective of the Pennsylvania State Police.

The Citizen’s Police Academy will involve approximately 20 hours of instruction taught in segments of two and a half hours. The program is scheduled to begin April 18th, 2016 and end June 13th, 2016 with participants meeting each Monday night for eight weeks from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Students must attend 75 percent or more of the scheduled classes in order to be eligible to graduate and receive a certificate.

Class size is limited to 35 community participants to allow for greater interaction between students and instructors. Participants are selected from a pool of interested applicants.

To apply you must be 18 years of age and a resident of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania State Police will also conduct a brief background investigation.

Applications can be picked up at the PA State Police station in Carlisle, which is located at 1538 Commerce Avenue, Carlisle, PA 17015. Applicants may also email agarcia@pa.gov or easbury@pa.gov to request an e-mail application. Deadline for application submission will be April 8th , 2016.
