Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that on Monday, March 21, its contractor will begin preparations to add additional turn lanes and install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Harrisburg Pike, Dillerville Road and North President Avenue near the City of Lancaster in Manheim Township.

This section of Harrisburg Pike, officially designated State Route 4020, averages more than 20,353 vehicles traveled daily.

PennDOT advises travelers that the contractor has agreed not to restrict travel lanes between 6 AM and 9 PM and that initially motorists may encounter lane shifts with flaggers directing traffic through the intersection on weekdays after 9 AM for drainage, curb and sidewalk work. Later this summer, crews will adjust their schedule from 9 PM to 6 AM for a nighttime milling and paving operation.

The $2,773,154.30 contract was awarded to Pennsy Supply, Inc., of Annville, Lebanon County, and includes excavation, drainage, curb and sidewalk work, removal of the top layer of asphalt, bituminous paving, curb cut work required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, and installation of Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT) at 15 signalized intersections along Harrisburg Pike between Hemlock Drive in East Hempfield Township and North Mulberry Street in the City of Lancaster. The ASCT work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.

Motorists are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.
