EPHRATA, Pa.–A 22-year-old man was arrested Friday after he fled from police in Ephrata during a traffic stop.

Adam L. Helman, of New Holland, is charged with fleeing and eluding police, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic violations.

Police attempted to pull Helman over around 1 p.m. along the 100 block of South State Street. He initially stopped, but then fled from police at a high rate of speed. Helman sped through several stop signs until he ended up at a dead end street in a parking lot along East King Street, according to police reports. .

Investigators say Helman ditched his car and then fled on foot onto the Ephrata Rail Trail.

He was arrested a short time later and taken to Lancaster County Central Booking for arraignment.
