MIDDLETOWN, Pa-People in Middletown are still fighting to keep a crematory from being built in their backyards.

A permit for Fager-Finkenbinder to renovate a garage behind their funeral home into a crematory has already been approved. People against it filed an appeal. A zoning hearing was suppose to take place on Thursday night, but counsel for the funeral home, borough and property owners all agreed to continue the hearing until April 27 at the borough building at 6:45pm.

"We are very happy with the decision to continue and delay this hearing until April. It gives us more time to get out and educate our neighbors and the citizens of Middletown," said David Grabulof Jr., spokesperson for the Middletown Citizens Awareness Network.

All crematories are regulated by the DEP. The regulations include making sure the cremations do not impact air quality and a trained person must be there at all times when the unit is in operation. The DEP is still reviewing the crematory's permit.
