MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Every year, hundreds of toads cross the road in Manheim Township to find their way to water and to mate. The problem is they must cross a busy road and that can be hard for a toad. The Amphibian Patrol and over a hundred other volunteers came out on Friday night to help the toads safely cross.

"Watch to see which direction it is going in. Is it going toward the pool or is it going back home? When you see which direction it is going in you pick it up gently, carry it across the road and lay it in the grass," said Marry Anne Stanley from the Manheim Township Library.

More migration is expected to take place throughout April. Volunteers can help from 8:00pm - 9:00pm every night. One pregnant toad can hatch 5,000 eggs so, there are a lot of lives at stake.
