YORK, PA – The York County Convention & Visitors Bureau will welcome hundreds of teams and youth athletes from across the state and region this April as two girls volleyball events return to the area, bringing with them an estimated economic impact of $2.6 million.

Athletes from across the state and Mid-Atlantic Region will converge upon the York Expo Center, first for the Keystone Regional Volleyball Association Tournament and then for the Mid-Atlantic Power League Tournament.

The KRVA Tournament comes to town this Saturday and Sunday. The competition will feature more than 100 teams and two tournaments, one in which teams from the Keystone Region will vie for a chance to play at the Girls Junior National Championships. A Club Challenge will include teams from the Keystone Region, but also the surrounding area. More than 1,300 participants are expected.

Hosted by the Delaware Volleyball Academy and in its sixth year in York, the Mid-Atlantic Power League will follow with its own tournament April 23-24. About 125 teams are expected, with competitors traveling from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Virginia.

Athletes hoping to compete at the next level will have an opportunity to display their skills for Division I, II and III coaches during a College Showcase on April 22.

The KRVA and MAPL competitions are the third and fourth volleyball tournaments to visit York County this year. York also hosted the Martin Luther King Kickoff Classic Volleyball Tournament in January. That event brought an estimated $5.2 million in total economic benefits to the county.

Each upcoming volleyball competition reinforces York County’s status as a sporting powerhouse, with facilities capable of hosting a diverse array of competitions.

Fresh off hosting the Mid-Atlantic Swimming Junior Olympics in March, York County will also welcome the 2016 USA Team Handball National Championships in May, the Keystone State Games in July and the PIAA Golf Championships in October, among many other athletic events.
