MIDDLETOWN, Pa- Fire crews battled a four-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Middletown, Dauphin County on Sunday morning. Flames broke out around 11:30, at the Holly Hall building of the Village of Pineford Apartment Complex. The complex is located on the 1900-block of Pineford Drive.
”I was sitting on the couch just like any other day and the alarm went off. I was even debating whether to go out, but I went out and checked it out. I smelled smoke immediately," said Madison Welsh.
Fire shot through the roof of the building, which houses 80-apartments. Eventually, the roof collapsed. Firefighters had trouble keeping the flames under control, due to the strong winds. The fire hit a 4-alarms just before 1:00 p.m. There were no reports of any injuries.
"Every body is fine just a couple of minor things here and there from the flying embers. It was pretty much make sure you keep your gear on and hunker down. Make sure you don't get burnt cause of the flying embers and stuff," said Sam Rittner, Safety Officer for Highspire Fire Department.
"It just surreal to watch yah know to see a scene like this. You watch this stuff on TV, you see it on the news every day, until you're actually here and see something like that, you, it's a different experience. It's incredible," said Brad Smith who lives in the complex.
The American Red Cross and a local church are helping the residents affected.
Any residents of Pineford that were affected by the fire are welcome to go to the MSCO Building between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. if they are in in need of clothing, toiletries, non perishables or blankets.
Visitors are asked to bring their ID to show.
