EPHRATA, Pa.–An Ephrata man will serve up to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a girl, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office.

Alexandr Remorenko, 40,  entered into a plea agreement regarding the abuse, which happened from 2002 to 2009.

The victim, now 24, told investigators the abuse happened regularly. Prosecutors said Remorenko was a close acquaintance of her family.

Remorenko pleaded guilty or no contest to 13 charges, including rape of a child and other first-degree felonies, according to Assistant District Attorney Karen Mansfield, lead prosecutor.

County Judge Donald Totaro accepted terms of the plea agreement and ordered sentence.

As part of sentence, Remorenko must register his whereabouts with police, under Megan’s Law, for the rest of his life.

The abuse was reported to police last year. In a police interview, Remorenko admitted to the crimes. He said he abused the girl between 12 and 40 times.

A defendant who pleads no contest doesn’t admit guilt, but concedes there is ample evidence for conviction. However, a no-contest plea has the same legal effect as a guilty plea.
