HARRISBURG, Pa. -PennDOT has closed a small bridge that carries Locust Point Road over an unnamed tributary to the Yellow Breeches Creek in Monroe Township, Cumberland County.
Locust Point Road is officially designated as State Route 1007. The bridge is located between Park Place (SR 2008) and a township road called Baish Road. A little more than 200 vehicles cross the bridge on a daily basis. Traffic is detoured by way of Park Place, Williams Grove Road (SR 2011), and Lisburn Road (SR 2004).
The bridge replacement is part of an overall construction contract to replace three bridges on Locust Point Road. PennDOT has contracted with Deblin, Inc. of Mechanicsburg, to replace all three structures at a cost of $2,635,887.
The other two bridges include a two-span concrete arch structure over the Yellow Breeches Creek and a two-span concrete structure over Mill Race Run located south of Park Place. These two structures have been closed to traffic since March 2005. They will be replaced by a bridge and a box culvert. The bridge over the Yellow Breeches Creek has already been demolished and removed by the contractor. The completion date for finishing the work on these two bridges is December 2017.
