I-81 north back open in Lebanon County following multi-vehicle crash

SWATARA TOWNSHIP, LEBANON COUNTY– Two of the three drivers involved in a crash involving three tractor trailers on Interstate 81 in Lebanon County were charged in that crash. State Police charged Albert Jones, 39, of Napanoch,  New York, was charged with Careless Driving.   Jones was behind the wheel of the UPS truck that imitated the crash. The driver of the second big rig, Angel Martinez, 53, of West New York, New Jersey was cited with driving too fast for conditions. The third driver, Joseph Grove, 32, of Mount Union was not charged. None of the drivers were injured.

PREVIOUS STORY: Interstate 81 north is back open in Lebanon County after it was shut down for nearly 4 1/2 hours Thursday following a multi-vehicle crash.

It happened shortly after 11 a.m. near mile marker 93 in Swatara Township.

Investigators say a UPS tractor-trailer was headed northbound when the driver lost control and jackknifed–which sent off a chain reaction crash between two other tractor-trailers.

A HazMat team responded to the scene after the diesel fuel tank on the UPS tractor-trailer ruptured.

No injures were reported.

A portion of Interstate 81 north is shut down in Lebanon County between Exit 90 and Exit 100.

The multi-vehicle crash involving three tractor-trailers  happened around 11:08 a.m. in Swatara Township.

Currently, all lanes are closed between Exit 90: PA 72-Lebanon and Exit 100: PA 443-Pine Grove.
