CARLISLE, Pa. – Carlisle Police identified and arrested 22 year old Shane A. Winters, as the rider of a dirt bike involved in a pair of high speed pursuits last month.

On March 5th just after 3 p.m. police attempted to stop a dirt bike on North Bedford Street for riding recklessly and not having a registration plate affixed to the bike.  The operator failed to yield to the police lights and siren and fled north onto North Hanover Street, west on West Penn Street, south on North West Street, west on West High Street, south on College Street and eventually westbound on Walnut Bottom Road.

Officers attempted to keep the dirt bike in sight without mimicking the reckless driving in order to warn pedestrians and traffic of the dirt bike’s approach.  Eventually, the dirt bike went southbound on Belvedere Street where it entered a wooded area.  Although there were trails leading into the woods, police did not follow and discontinued the pursuit. The rider was a white male wearing a dark colored jacket with tan on the shoulders and dark colored pants.  The dirt bike was smaller in size and was white with red fenders.

Winters was identified thanks to numerous tips from the public. His motorcycle was observed in plain view at his place of employment. He was even wearing the same clothes that he had been wearing while fleeing the police. Winters admitted to being the rider during the pursuit and also admitted to a pursuit that occurred in Mt Holly Springs. Charges have been filed in that case as well. In regards to the Carlisle incident, Winters is charged with felony Fleeing and Eluding, Recklessly Endangering another Person, driving with a DUI Suspended License and numerous summary traffic offenses.
