York County schools locked down while police search for suspects

YORK COUNTY, Pa – Schools and colleges were put on lock down while searched for four suspects who may have been involved in some recent shots fired cases.

At approximately 2:11 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, York City Police attempted to stop a vehicle that the four males were riding in.   The vehicle fled from the police and was abandoned in the area of Queenswood Drive in York Township.

The driver and occupants fled from the vehicle on foot into a wooded area that sits northeast of the apartment complex.  Police units from several jurisdictions including York City Police, York Area Regional Police, the Pennsylvania State Police, the York County Sheriff’s Office and the Spring Garden Township Police began an immediate search of the neighborhoods and the wooded area.

Police notified officials of  the York Suburban School District to place their school on lock down as a precaution while they continued searching the area for the suspects. As the search progressed, additional schools in and around the Township were notified and a recommendation was made to them to go on lock down including the following schools:

York Suburban High School

Valley View Elementary School

Phineas Davis Elementary School

York County Day School

York Catholic High School

Penn State University

York College of PA

The York Jewish Community Center

At approximately 5:15 p.m. police concluded searching the wooded area and surrounding neighborhood and advised the schools to begin releasing and transporting their students.

So far none of the suspects have been located and police continue to patrol the area.
