Man arrested for assault, threats against woman in Harrisburg parking garage

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Harrisburg Police responded to parking garage located at 215 Walnut Street for a report of a screaming female and shots fired. As officers arrived in the area they observed a male holding a female by the back of her neck walking toward 3rd Street on Walnut Street. He was later identified as Matthew Sparks. Officers detained Sparks until they could determine if he was involved in anything. The victim related that they she and Sparks are in a relationship. Sparks reportedly drove the victim’s vehicle into the Walnut Street garage.

Once the vehicle was parked they got into a verbal argument in which Sparks allegedly attacked the victim.  During the assault, police say Sparks pulled out the victim’s handgun from the center console and threatened her with it.  He then fired a round into the dashboard to disable the vehicle.  The victim fled from the vehicle with Sparks chasing after her firing another round.  He grabbed her by the back of her neck as they walked out of the building.

Sparks was taken into custody without incident.  A loaded 380 caliber firearm registered to the victim was found on Sparks. He is cahrged with Aggravated Assault / Carrying a Firearm without License / Terr. Threats / Unlawful Restraint / Endangering / Possession of Marijuana.
