MILLERSBURG, Pa -- A school district in dauphin county will not make any decision yet when it comes to cutting school programs and sports.

The Millersburg area school board was supposed to vote last night tonight on whether the district will cut certain elective classes, sports and staff.

But the community came out in full force, asking the board to reconsider.

This all comes after last week's board meeting.

That's where the board outlined budget issues within the district largely in part to an enrollment decline for the past 8 years.

The proposed cuts would eliminate some elective classes, like home economics.

The cuts would also eliminate some teaching positions and sports teams like middle school basketball.

Community members feel like they should have been informed of these issues months ago and believe that cuts shouldn't be the answer.

Many school employees spoke during public comment and got emotional talking about the possibility losing their jobs next year.

School Social Worker Tonya hatter said,  "She said if I need help, I'm coming to you. And I had to tell her I don't know if I'm going to be here. Those are the actions that you don't see."

School board officials will now wait 30 days for more suggestions on how to fix the budget problems.

Members say if there is no better solution by then, the proposed cuts could still happen.
