HARRISBURG, Pa. — The long awaited federal courthouse project in Harrisburg was allocated $29.5 million for “continued feasibility studies and preparation work” by the General Services Administration. The GSA released a $947 million plan on yesterday, to build or renovate eight federal courthouses across the country. That plan must be approved by the House and Senate Appropriations committees and the congressional committee that authorizes courthouse construction.

“After pushing GSA for a funding award for the critical Harrisburg Courthouse project, I am glad we have received word that they will be receiving additional federal support. The project still needs significantly more funding to become a reality and I will continue to push to see this to fruition,” said U.S. Senator Bob Casey.

The plan for a new courthouse to be located at 6th and Reily Streets has been in the works since 2004, when $26 million was allocated to design a building and acquire the property to build it.
