RED LION, Pa.–  A man is accused of beating his 16-year-old girlfriend while he was driving in Red Lion on Friday.

According to charging documents, during an argument around 4:30 p.m, 19-year-old Michael Dean Meinl, of Lower Chanceford Township, grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and slammed her face into the center dash of his vehicle. He then punched her several times in the mouth and head.

Meinl beat the girl while the couple was driving down East Broadway and North Main St police said.  A witness told police that Meinl threw his cellphone at the girl’s face during the argument.

Police say after the assault, the girl spit up a large amount of blood and was treated by EMTs.

Meinl  now faces charges of endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and careless driving.

Police said in charging documents that, Meinl exposed the victim to violence and corrupted her morals as well as endangering the general public because the assault took place while operating his motor vehicle in heavy traffic.

Meinl was arraigned and placed in York County Prison on $7,500 bail, and was released after he  posted bail on Tuesday.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 9.
